New track for the new year
March 7 2018 I am rearranging my song Weatherman; I was pleased with the original version, recorded some years ago,
but I felt it was lacking something, so now I'm going to put it right. Here's the before version:
March 7 2018 I have emerged from winter hibernation with a new song, which I wrote and recorded over the
last couple of weeks. It's about love and friendship, entitled Until The End.
I hope you like it! I am continuing work on my next album which I plan to release as soon as possible.

Getting on down @ Copper Brown
November 1 2017 I have been having the greatest time with my record company, Copper Brown Records, since being signed to a recording and publishing deal for my song, You Got Away, in July (see below – full press release here).
Luke Cutler, the company's Creative Director (pictured, right) set it up to create a true 'family' atmosphere, with a strong in-house identity and independent ethos. Well, all I can say as one of CB's artists, is that this goal has already been achieved, and is developing very nicely. Without being too sycophantic – which would be very easy – I can honestly say I have never been felt more appreciated, respected and supported by anyone in the music business the way I am as part of the 'family'. (I don't know why but I always want to adopt a Marlon Brando accent when I say 'the family'!) My producer, Charlie Yang (pictured, right), and I have had a series of recording sessions at the company's beautiful, fabulously-equipped, purpose-built studio in North Finchley (slideshow, below)and the results are extremely exciting. We have re-amped guitars, stacked vocals, arranged strings and had the company's resident drummer Stuart Pringle (who has worked with Ed Sheeran, Kelly Rowland / Amelia Lilly, David Stewart, Nate James and countless more independent and indie label artists) lay down some brilliant drums. CB even has its own resident drum kit, which sounds amazing. And very loud. We are within a gnat's of completing the recording, then it's over to mixmaster David Tither to weave his magic. David is a hugely talented musician, writer, producer and mixer and I can't wait to see what he does with all the tracks – 100+, count 'em – that Charlie and I have created. Good luck, David!
We had a photoshoot a couple of weeks back, which was great fun, and the planned promotional activity is going to ensure everyone hears the song, and sees the video. The video treatment I have heard about is amazing, and the video itself is due to be filmed very soon. I am chuffed to bits that CB Art Director Isabella Buckland-Jones is masterminding this... I can't wait for people to see it. I think it's going to be a bit MASSIVE. I've also met fellow Copper Brown artist Tez Locke, who is a great guy. Like me, he's delighted to be part of 'the family' (oh blimey, here comes Marlon again…) and we are very excited what the future holds now we are in the company of, well, genius is the word that springs to mind. Oh, and the coffee is bloody brilliant, too. #happyman Thanks, Copper Brownies, for everything. And, contrary to what a certain mobile phone company would have you believe, the future's bright. The future's COPPER BROWN! Please pop back from time to time for the latest exciting updates. |

Recording and publishing deal signed with Copper Brown Records
July 7 2017 I have signed a recording and publishing deal with Copper Brown Records, a great bunch of people who operate out of Copper Brown HQ in North Finchley, London. They broadcast their A&R meeting on the last Friday of the month on Facebook live and this evening they played my song You Got Away and, it has to be said, went absolutely bananas about it. I am going to visit Luke, Charlie and the team next week and will update the website then on what our plans are. I am extremely happy to be working with CBR. They have a fabulously-appointed in-house studio as well as video editing suite, etc. Their ethic is right up my alleyway.
Here's the full press release.
More – much more – to come. Oh, and here's a photo of three of the Copper Brown gang.
They are beyond cool. If slightly scary…

You Got Away - a sneak preview from Audiobilia
June 24 2017 In amongst all the other exciting activity going on at the moment I have been working on tracks for my next album, which I have decided to call Audiobilia. It's a play on the word memorabilia – as the smart ones among you will have already worked out! – and seems to be apt for a songwriter, piecing together ideas, memories snippets of words and sound to make a collection that gels. I don't know if it's a real word or not – it is now!
I hope to get the album complete and ready for the end of 2017 but, realistically, it is more likely to be early 2018. I'm not being defeatist, believe me, I just know how long these things take. And I want to get it right. Three songs complete and another two almost there. There will be ten songs in total, and I'm very, very pleased with what is coming out of the studio so far, for all kinds of reasons. I won't waffle on – ! – simply leave you with the audio below, and the video, above. The video Take Some Time as its title at present – a technical error which I shall correct once I have fired the director. Oh, hang on... I was the 'director'... |
Reverbnation featured artist
June 21 2017 I have made two appearances this month on the worldwide home page of Reverbnation, with whom I have been working with for a couple of years to promote my music and exploit various opportunities for publishing, sync placements and recording. The company provides an excellent platform for independent musicians and songwriters and I am grateful to them for all their hard work – it is much appreciated.
The home page features came about as a result of two of my songs receiving a high score in Reverbnation's crowd review feature, where an independent panel of listeners rate songs they hear and give their views (see detailed entry further down news page). |
Publishing deal with Zeiler Media signed, sealed, delivered…
June 20 2017 Great news this week! I am delighted to announce that I have signed a publishing deal with UK publishing company Zeiler Media. I got in touch with them a couple of months ago and they recently added me to their roster of singer/songwriters/producers.
As you can imagine, I am very excited about this – it's one of the major things I have been working towards and the possibilities are endless. Zeiler's experience is vast and they cover all areas of publishing from placing songs/music in ads on films or with other artists who are looking for songs.
You can find out more about Zeiler Media by clicking here. I will be revealing more information about what we are doing together as soon as I get it but in the meantime I am working as hard and fast (!) as I can to give them plenty of great material to work with.

SG1 interview – hear it here
June 15 2017 I spent a very enjoyable morning chatting to Slava at SG1 Radio, which broadcasts worldwide from its studios in Hertfordshire. We talked about my musical background, influences, future plans – the whole nine yards, really.
Slava also kindly played two tracks from my album, and Take Some Time from my forthcoming album.

Chart action at 365 Network, Spectrum Radio and KCEG Radio
June 10 2017 I have been working hard getting my music played on radio stations around the world and am delighted with the results – I'm on rotation on nearly 100 stations, which is incredible, with more lined up.
The people running the stations are a fabulously hard-working bunch, and their encouragement and support is brilliant for independent musicians like myself. At the time of writing, my highest chart position is #2 on Rock Invasion (left), but I am also #16 on Unsigned HQ Radio (right), up to #18 on Spectrum Radio and a healthy #11 on KCEG Radio (below). I have a busy week coming up with two radio interviews as well as preparation for a live audition for a top TV show which I will tell you more about in a few weeks. I have to perform a one cover and one original. Keep you posted! |
Great reviews land Reverbnation home page features in June
May 12 2017 Great news! I have landed two featured artist spots on the Reverbnation home page in June thanks to great crowd reviews of two of my songs. Reverbnation's crowd review feature allows musicians to get listener feedback on their songs; if 'the crowd' scores your song more than 7.5 you earn a featured artist spot on the Reverbnation worldwide home page.
My songs Take Some Time and Nothing Really Matters scored 7.8 and 7.6 respectively so I will receive two featured artist spots in June. I will post further information on the exact dates when I am informed.
Below are some of the comments from listeners:
Take Some Time
" Has a really strong bold sound that stands out really good the pace is really nice and strong the bold flow is really
nice and the singer is great. "
" I liked the retro electronica sound. It's highly accessible to several generations, so most people will enjoy it.
It's a genuine 'pop' song in the good sense of the term, not the "eww!" sense. "
" The thing that stands out the most to me about this song is how strong it comes on. It instantly comes in with a strong beat and then the vocals start and they match the beat perfectly. It has a techno sound which I really enjoy. "
Nothing Really Matters
" The song was extremely enjoyable. The slow fade in of all the instruments was a lovely decision on the production front.
It reminds me a lot of the album Rumours from Fleetwood Mac. "
" Has a really good strong sound that stands out really nice and the pace is really good I like the flow that it has
is really nice and strong. "
" Just like he said nothing really matters until you find your home. That verse really open my eyes to things
I have been facing in my life. "
Thanks, folks.

The year (so far) in a video
May 12 2017 This video was generated for me on Facebook and is an interesting snapshot of what I've been doing this year. I removed the 'whistling' soundtrack with my song Call Me Up. Oh, and apologies for the parental advisory word at 2:05 ...
Less is more…
May 6 2017 I always like to make my guitar work serve the song; my latest needed a solo, so I let rip.
For four bars. Sometimes, less is more… apologies for the shorts... it gets hot in that studio...

Two more great radio stations
April 12 2017 My quest for radio play continues and I have had a terrific response from Mike Leonard at KCEG Radio and Elizabeth at The Amazing Radio station. My songs are in rotation on both stations and they play terrific music, so why not tune in and hear some great songs. Thanks to Mike and Elizabeth – great to be working with such enthusiastic, supportive people.
365 Radio Powerplay – Ten songs (and some very kind words)…
March 30 2017 I was delighted to be the subject of a Powerplay on the fantastic 365 Radio Network this morning. The ultra cool JL Hensley played ten of my songs, and also said some fantastic things about my music. Thank you so much, JL. I'm delighted to be a part of the 365 success story and look forward to a long lasting working relationship. I hope to do an interview with 365 in the near future, and have also offered them an exclusive advance play of my next song, which, I think will probably be You Got Away. Have a listen to what JL had to say below:

Now playing on KB Radio
March 30 2017 It's the first anniversary of the release of my album, and what a year it's been. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me promote my music and get it heard, from radio stations to PR companies, press, friends and family.

This is fantastic news and I'm delighted my music is going down so well the the USA and with 365's listeners. Thanks again to everyone involved.

Opening up the Music Gateway…
March 20 2017 I am working with Music Gateway to help promote my songs and also exploit synchronisation opportunities with TV and film companies around the world. Music Gateway calls itself 'a B2B platform, specifically designed to allow creative and music industry professionals to connect and work together in a global capacity'. Every week it offers opportunities to pitch for song placements, where Music Gateway's A&R team filters the most appropriate works; if you are 'shortlisted' you get to deal directly with the pitching company involved. I'm delighted to say I have got ten pitches currently shortlisted and half a dozen more made it through in the last few months. It seems to be a high level, highly professional organisation and I am looking forward to working with the team in the future. Dave Stewart (Eurythmics, Bob Dylan, etc.) is a board member as is Andy McQueen of Notting Hill Music, so I'm mixing (no pun intended) with some top quality people. Click one of the links below to find out more.
Dream (radio) team – more US airplay
March 17 2017 Another US-based radio station – CYD Radio – has added me to its playlist. Although predominantly a country music station, CYD also plays music it likes from musicians the world over who are 'chasing their dreams'. Thank you to the team, and I'm proud and happy to be playing over your airwaves.

Breaking into the Midwest Broadcasting Group charts
March 12 2017 Midwest Broadcasting Group has just published
its latest Top 20 and I have made it into the charts at #17 with Call Me Up. All of the tracks from my album are receiving heavy rotation on the 365 Radio Network, which is fantastic, and I have made a whole load of new contacts and Twitter followers as a result. Thanks again to all at 365 for their help and support. |
Making good CONNECT-ions
March 7 2017 I have signed up to CONNECT Songs, which is an invitation-only US-based company which operates in partnership with Reverbnation and whose UK division is Sentric Music Publishing, which has been nominated as on of the top music publishing companies in the UK in the forthcoming Music Week Awards, which take place in April.
In its own words, "CONNECT Songs is an invite-only music publishing service focused on identifying and supporting the best emerging artists in the world." That will do for me.
I'm honoured to be involved with CONNECT, and have already been able to pitch for a variety of synchronisation opportunities for TV and film companies across the world. It's a tough game, but I'm hopeful I'll get a breakthrough with persistence and fortitude.

Reverbnation chart #1s
March 4 2017 It's been a busy time on Reverbnation. I made it to #1 in the local and regional charts and hit the top 5 in the national chart, which I'm delighted about. I'm a big supporter of what Reverbnation does for independent musicians and am grateful to them for all the support they give. They provide all kinds of opportunities for press exposure, radio play and live performance – ideal for singer/songwriter/producers like myself.

Sneak preview of the next album
September 18 2016 I've been working on my next album and thought I would give an early airing to one of the tracks I have completed. It's entitled Take Some Time – not a reference to how long it takes me to complete a song in the studio, although it could be – and gives a pretty good indication of the style and sound that's coming over in the songs and production of the new material. I hope you like it...

Rocking all over the world
May 24 2016 I have had a great reaction to my album and am delighted to have listeners all over the world. It is always interesting to discover which songs people favour, and why. As a songwriter you get very close to the songs when you are writing and recording them but once they are released 'into the world' you wish them well and hope they get on okay out there – a bit like little musical offspring. I'm always delighted to hear what you like (and don't like) so do let me know. This (right) is from Lis in Southern California who was listening to 'On My Way Back To You' driving to work at 4am one day. I hope it made the journey more bearable. Thanks Lis.

Tracks being recorded for the next album
May 13 2016 I have been recording tracks for the next album, spurred on by the great reaction to the first one, and to clear some of the backlog of songs written but not recorded. It's going well so far – I have two tracks, Weatherman (Let It Rain) and Take Some Time – 'in the can' and am finishing off a third track, You Got Away. The sound, production and overall quality of the new material is taking everything to 'the next level', I believe, aided considerably by my migration to Cubase Pro 8 and EZdrummer 2 and its various fantastic expansion packs. I'm also loving Cubase's Dark Planet soft synth.
Digital distribution up and running
May 4 2016 My album is now available from all digital distribution outlets – iTunes, Amazon Music, Deezer, media.net, Google Play – and several others I haven't even heard of. I've also come across some 'early adopters' who don't have CD players any longer, so they can download a digital version for their listening pleasure. I have had an amazing reaction to the album and would like to thank everyone who has shown their support and encouragement by either buying the album, helping to promote it, re-Tweeting messages, etc. The word is spreading, I'm delighted to say. I'm busily (!) working on the songs for the next album, which I am very pleased with. I'm not sure when it will be ready for release, but I intend to release a 'teaser' track sometime in the summer to give you some idea of what to expect.
|
Hot off the pressMarch 25 2016 I have just taken delivery of the first batch of CDs, ready for the album release on March 30. I must admit it was quite a thrill to finally get a 'finished product' in my hands after having spent so long on the writing and recording of the songs. The release is on schedule and the album should also be available from iTunes, amazon and all the other digital outlets from March 30. Many thanks to Here & Now Distribution for doing such a great job on the CDs.

Hitting the headlilnesMarch 4 2016 I have received great support from the local media this week on the joint announcement of the release of my album at the end of March 2016, and on making it to the top of Reverbnation's charts for singer/songwriters in the local area.
I'm climbing the national rankings at the moment, too, so many thanks to everyone who has helped my chart push. You can read the articles by clicking the links below, and also visit my Reverbnation site where Can't Stop, the first single from my album, is currently available as a free download. |
